Our recent collaboration with Prof. Jianwei Pan’s group at University Science and Technology China appeared on the arxiv recently. The experiment performs a Hong-Ou-Mandel experiment with a single photon source and sunlight.

PhysicsWorld has written a short article based on the result.
Quantum sunlight experiment could shed light on stellar astrophysics
TTP, or Thousand Talents Plan, is a program initiated by the Chinese government to attract Chinese scholars to go home and foreign scientists to come to China. Prof. Byrnes is one of the overseas scholars sponsored by TTP.
In a recent conversation with South China Morning Post, Prof. Byrnes shared his viewpoints that although […]
An article published in Financial Times indicated that as the US government has become more suspicious about the Chinese talent recruiting programs, the Chinese government has “hushed up” their schemes. As a receiver of the Thousand Talent Plan grant, Tim shared his feeling that his research was not intervened by the government at all, […]
In an article discussing the impact and strain that Chinese talent recruiting policies has on western higher educational systems, Prof. Byrnes, as a sponsored member of the Thousand Talents Plan, shared his experience observations in the past few years.
Our recently published paper “Adiabatic entangling gate of Bose-Einstein condensates based on the minimum function” on Phy. Rev. A was featured on the website of NYU-ECNU Institute of Physics and on the Joint Research Institute’s WeChat platform. It’s noteworthy that one of the authors of this paper is Yilun Song, an […]
Figure 4d from the paper “Adiabatic entangling gate of Bose-Einstein condensates based on the minimum function” by Sergi Ortiz, Yilun Song, June Wu, Valentin Ivannikov, and Tim Byrnes was displayed in Physical Review A’s Kaleidoscope.
Our work is featured on the NYU Shanghai Insitute of Physics website. If you want to see a simple introduction to what our recent paper is about, this is for you! The work was also featured in the NYUSH Gazette.
Some time ago, researchers found a loophole in John Wheeler’s famous delayed-choice experiment. But this loophole was quickly sew shut by three experimental groups. In this regard, an article named “Closed Loophole Confirms the Unreality of the Quantum World” by science writer Anil Ananthaswamy was published on Quanta Magazine, which includes Prof. […]
In an editorial published on Money Morning two weeks ago, the editor introduced how China will become the “tomorrow super power” with their “superior technology”. One sign of this is that “thousands of scientists and tech professionals like Professor Byrnes flock to China”.
The original article is: “How China Will Become THE World’s […]
Last week Jonathan Dowling and Barry Sanders were visiting USTC and we talked about everything from the quantum satellite to pigeon holes. Dinner photo(n)s below
